Updates on winter 2013/2014 litters

Posted by on November 15, 2013

It has been a while since I have updated with puppy news and litter announcements.  Last I wrote we were planning on litters out of Ella and Luna.  Well, after lots of progesterone testing, money, and doing a surgical AI, the breeding on Ella didn’t take.  We were very bummed, because we were very excited about the litter out of her and Miura, but we will just have to try again next time.

We did have a very sneaky and accidental breeding between Axel and Cedar.  Cedar, Kyra and Ella were all in heat at the same time, and we thought we were being very careful to keep them all separated, but Axel definitely had different plans on his mind.  Sneaky, naughty boy.  I didn’t want to breed either of them this early.  They’re too young.  I’ve learned my lesson, though, and can’t change what happened.  We will have nice pups out of those two at the end of December.  Even though they’re young, I think that out of all of my dogs, they’re the best match.  Look for updates on their litter soon!  We have an ultrasound planned for the Monday before Thanksgiving.

Luna was supposed to go into heat and be bred in September, but she decided to take her time and go into heat two months late.  Better late than never!  We have started progesterone testing on her, and plan on breeding her hopefully mid to end of next week.  We will be driving her out to Montana to be bred to the handsome Briggs.  He is a very nice boy with an extremely impressive pedigree, with lots of health clearances in his line, as well as very long lived berners (both of his parents lived to be 11!).  We are super excited to see how his puppies turn out with Luna.  We may consider keeping a pup from their breeding, if we have a female we really like.  We’ll see how things turn out!  Luna’s puppies will be born at the end of January, and ready to go end of March.  It will be a fun litter!
